Hi Everyone,
First time here so not sure if I'm in the right area...

Got my camera out today and started taking a few snaps but noticed that every couple of shots the Sensor cleaning message would come up and no picture taken...tried a few different CF cards, lens etc but to no avail. A couple of days ago I attached a cord for the flash but all seemed to be working OK....not sure if anyone has come across this problem before and could make any suggestions...

Doesn't the sensor cleaning come up only when you switch on/off the camera? From this I would guess either try a different battery or check that the power switch is ok. I'm sure a camera store would lend you their battery to try before you have to buy a new one :)

The sensor cleaning always comes on when you turn the camera off, but it should not come up while you are shooting. Take the battery out, and let it reset. If it happens again, call the Canon Service Center for advice.

Try to disable the custom function for sensor cleaning. I think the picture will still not get taken. My guess at what is happening is that once you press the shutter button, the camera will turn on motors and electronics which will momentarily draw down the voltage level of the battery or internal capacitors. If this voltage level drops too low, it might trigger the camera to turn off instead.

Just a guess though.

hmm...might be doing a quick power cycle, off, sensor clean, on. take both the batteries out and after putting them back in see if this happens. If it does, it needs a trip to Canon.

Low voltage across the non OEM battery not being detected by the camera. Was about to say that when I read the final post...

Just one more reason to use Canon batteries and avoid 3rd party attempts to sell gear not totally compatible with the host.
