Well I am in between sports bodies at the moment while I save up for a 1D MK IV, and I had to shoot my kids team soccer photos yesterday. Was a bit weary of the 5D II for shooting this kind of sport but had no choice.

So I grabbed the 5DII, the 100-400L and went out.

I must say using the 5DII makes you think more about your shots ahead of time, and anticipate the action.

Surprisingly the 5DII tracks way better than I thought it would. It does get messed up by anything crossing in front of your target, but that can be worked around.

All in all, a good day, some great shots, plus I think doing this with the 5DII is making me a better photographer overall (especially for when I get my IV). I find myself thinking much more about shots, composition, and anticipating where the action will happen. I think I was guilty before of "spray and pray" technique with my 7D. Gonna shoot some more Soccer/Football and 1 car race with the 5DII, before I get my MKIV. Actually looking forward to use the 5DII lol
