Yeah, thanks for that picture. You can see (although blurry) the black strips in my blowup of the Canon image that were actually on the mirror itself.

Although, I looked at mine last night (which Canon says they fixed) but doesn't seem to have those two strips. Better check again tonight.

The picture OP posted definitely has not had the fix done yet. Mine is with Canon right now being done. The mirror didn't fall out in mine, but I sent it in as a preventative measure. The serial number does nothing to check whether or not the camera may or may not have the problem. They said early models and late models both had the issue potentially.

I think the point behind the post about the serial number is that the poster was saying that the OP could contact Canon and ask if that camera had been fixed yet - assuming that Canon tracks the serial number of the cameras that were fixed.

Yeah, I misread that. I would hope they track what's been repaired and what hasn't by serial number. Would be a waste of their money to have to keep shipping out the same cameras multiple times.

I'm opening this old thread for anyone that has a 5D C that hasn't had the mirror fix incorporated.
I just had the fix done to two mint 5D C bodies which I purchased last year. Before I start I would like to thank and give credit to fellow member Randy AC who got me off in the right direction.

The fix applies to all 5D C bodies no exceptions serial numbers have no bearing they don't want
to hear about them.

To tell if your body has the fix see post 30 where he is showing green strips on each side of the
mirror are the parts Canon is adding. They are black and lay on top of the mirror if you don't have
them you will see a gap between the mirror and the three step mirror frame.

They will perform the fix regardless of the mirrors present condition.

Canon pays for shipping both ways the whole deal took seven business days. ( CT to NJ )

All you have to do is call 1-800-652-2666 and they will talk you thru it.

The above listed information as far as the actual repair applies to the USA & Puerto Rico. For the
rest of the world check with your customer service.

The web pages for Canada

http://canoncanada.custhelp.com …3A-main-mirror-detachment (external link)

and Europe

http://cpn.canon-europe.com …s/eos_5d_mirror_repair.do (external link)

state they will only fix "affected" 5D cameras. As I posted earlier in this thread it seems that only the US will do the free fix even if the mirror has not fallen off.

When I had a 5D (year ago) I inquired about the mirror fix. Canon told me they are still fixing the mirror "if it's broken". They will not fix as a preventative maintenance routine.

If your in the USA or Puerto Rico Canon will incorporate the mirror fix weather the mirror is broken
or intact. I just had two 5D's with mirrors intact updated with the mirror fix. The reason I reopened
this thread is because it is just loaded with misinformation.

The web page for Canon Europe is dated 2009. I had my 5D mirror fixed for free without it having fallen off in the UK by Colchester Camera repair, a CPS centre sometime late 2011 or early 2012. It did have some extra work being done at the time, but they did state it would be applied no question as it was normal routine for them, so UK appears to do it.

It appears that some countries will do the fix if you send the camera in for other work. But as others have said, if you just try to get it fixed when its not broken they won't do it.

Maybe some things were true at the time they were posted and are no longer true.

That's the danger in challenging the information in a old thread.

I'm trying to sell my 5d but can't tell if the fix had been done. The camera went in for a 18 point check up in April, nothing was mentioned about the mirror though. This is a picture I took off the mirror.

(EDIT 11/28/15 @ 12:27 EST) I may be mistaken here. See later post, please. Pay particular attention to VAdimZH's posted photos.)
