NOT TRUE.

Please modify your post. The image Chet has posted CLEARLY shows the mirror-fix reinforcements in place. Google the term "5D mirror fix images", if you care to verify. I had a 5D. I had the mirror fix done. Chet's camera has been recalled/repaired.

I see only side reflection on the mirror and it looks like there is NO mirror reinforcements parts.

Below is picture WITH reinforcement parts,it looks exactly like on my 5D (after Canon service)

The image Chet has posted, post #43 didn't shows it,at least for me.

Yes I am aware that the service period is ended. I purchased this as a quick backup for an out of State shoot. The camera was in for it's 18 point inspection in April of this year to the NJ repair center. I would think Canon would perform such a service knowing the warranty period was about up. I just want to give accurate information as I've been asked by potential purchasers.

Finding definitive answers has been difficult.

VaDimZH, I retract my earlier position. I have edited my previous post, too. Your photo showing side re-inforcements is totally new to me. I just did a bunch of digging and cannot resolve my dilemma. I originally thought the 'stepped' frame sides were indicative of the repair. Some online resources agree, some do not. I had a 5Dc that I bought used, and the seller provided documentation that the repair had been done. I believed the 'stepped' sides thing was the repair. Now I am not sure. I no longer have my 5Dc to check. Chet, I will defer to VaDimZH on this one. Please accept my apologies.

Chet, the mirror on your 5D was fallen out?

My guess is Canon repair (for free before september 2015) it only IF mirror was fallen out.

Likewise...my 5DC was purchased a very long time ago from someone on POTN who advised that the mirror reinforcement had been performed and the seller provided documentation that the repair had been done, but I just checked and mine does not have the side reinforcements as depicted in post 46. I previously thought the small 'tab' was the change.

My mirror

Here is a photo inside the mirrorbox from a DPReview camera review written in 2005...looks the same as the photo inside my camera

No apologies required. The mirror has not fallen out in the 61k clicks of this body, and it's received a clean bill of health. I would think a clear photo of a before and after by Canon would prove beneficial.

I've read everything from my serial number doesn't fall in the range to if it hasn't fallen out it won't. I'm sure selling the body for under $350 would get it sold, but I'm not in a hurry to part with it as it does function as a backup if needed.

All is fine,no problem :)

A 'stepped' sides thing you mentioned before is actually a part of "mirror holder".

But mirror reinforcement parts actually attached to the 'stepped' sides things, clearly shows on the picture above.

At least its exactly the same like on my 5D.

As I said before,if the mirror was not fallen out,my guess Canon will not replace it.
There is a huge amount of 5Dc with 60k-80k clicks and mirror is fine.

So Chet, looks like your mirror is not reinforced,it works great so no worry.

For $350, I'd keep it. You can't buy a good P&S for that.

Yes,a small "tab" is actually a reinforcement parts, and from your picture and dpreview picture there is no reinforcement parts.

But the DPreview 5D shot was not make to emphasize the mirror differences, yet you see an edge glint in their shot (which I magnified) which is at the same location as the one seen in the photo of the interior of my 5D...as if that tab has always been present. Therefore my puzzlement about what truly is the modification which is retrofit.

The difference is clearly shows on the picture I post (same on my 5D) and your pictures.

The reinforcements parts goes over mirror to hold it.

Before repair, without reinforcement the mirror simply glued.

With reinforcement parts it holds the mirror to prevent it from fall out, smart idea.

The mirror came loose in my 5D at the end of this summer. I called Canon to see what it would cost to get it repaired. They sent me a UPS shipping label, paid the cost of shipping and did the mirror fix at no cost to me. Attached is what it looks like now.
