Hello all,

I have had the urge to go FF for quite some time now and I am seriously considering selling my entire lens line up and purchasing the Canon 5D Mark II with 24-105 combo from Amazon. FYI, I most likely will be using my camera strictly for vacation/traveling purposes and taking pictures of my family. I am assuming the 24-105 is versatile enough for these purposes.

Here is my current lineup and how much I can most likely sell my gear for

Canon t1i w/ grip (Sell for ~250)
Sigma 30 1.4 (~375)
Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS (~600)
Canon EF 70-200 F4 (~550)
Canon EF-S 60mm 2.8 Macro (~300)
Canon EF 50mm 1.8 (~100)

Speedlite 430 EX II (Keep)

If I were to sell my entire lineup, I figured I would have about 2175 plus another 450 of amazon gift card credit totaling to 2625

The Canon 5D Mark II w/ 24-105 combo sells for 2900.

Is this worth it? Would you do it? Or am I crazy? Is the jump to full frame as life changing as everyone makes it out to be? :)

Please help !! :)

Well, if money's real tight, I'd keep your current line up - trading all that range of lenses for a single zoom is not a great a swap IMHO. The difference between crop and FF isn't that big of a deal unless you're doing work that really needs it.

The 50 1.8 is not EF-S  Sell all, keep the 50 until you can get better lenses. The 24-105 is really good, but in some situation f/4 will limit you, and sharpness wide open is alright, not amazing, but not bad either.

Would I?
Yes
But you have to decide if you can live without the EFOV of 320mm

Oops..corrected :)

windpig - I actually haven't used my 70-200 in months..I would say my 15-85 is attached to my t1i ~ 90% of the time.

If you're going to sell all your gear, your proposed new arrangements will change the way you approach the hobby - which may be just the push you need. The 24-105mm is a mighty fine basis for an FF kit, but at 105mm on FF, it's not quite as long, in FoV, as your 70-200mm at 70mm so you will be seeking out different sorts of shots - again, this may give you a push in a different direction.

$2,900 seems a little high for this kit and you may do better to buy separately, although I'm no expert on US pricing (assuming your prices are USD).

Good luck whichever choice you make.

24mm is wider on FF than your 18 is on a crop. You will also get a narrower DOF along with good IS. You then look to add primes in the future. Both the vignetting and optical distortion at the short end can be handled in PP pretty well.

if i was you. id keep the 70-200 and buy the 5d2 without the kit lens. you'll get more use out of it over the 24-105. then save up for a used one. They should be selling for around the $650 used.

He says he doesn't shoot the 70-200, plus he'd have nothing in the WA end 'cause his 15-85 won't work on FF.

Thank you all for your great insights. The 2 lenses that are used the most on my t1i are the sigma 30 for indoors and the 15-85 for outdoors. 85mm on a crop has been more than enough range for me. Perhaps I haven't given the 70-200 a large enough chance but thats another story...

Please correct me if im wrong, but If i keep the 50mm for indoors and get a 24-105, it will cover the same focal ranges as the 30mm and 15-85 on the crop right?

EFOV of 85 on a crop is 135 so 124 on FF is a little shorter.
