I'm trying to work up a price for a event promoter. The event promoter wants to hire me to shoot the event. I will be able to sell photographs of the event to anyone I want after. What I'm trying to decide is what should they get for their money. I know they would like a CD of photos for promoting the next events. How many would you offer. One more thing the event is 800 mile from home base.

I have worked with them before but its always been come in and shoot and sell what ever I want no charge to them.

I would assume the photos will be used for promoting the event for the organizer. So, I assume model releases are required for the shots. If I were you, I would see how much money I can make just by selling these photos to the athletes. If it is enough for you, I would probably not charge the organizer at all. Maybe to give them a handle of shots at 1024 pixel resolution. There is no reason why they would need all the photos from the event.

Yes it would be for promotinmg future events. As for how much I can sell at an event you can never tell. One time you might sell $20 the next $1000. That's the thing. Not sure if I'm not asking the questions right or what. I can never get them to give me a number on the amout of pictures they want. They just keep saying give us a price of what it will cost to have you come to our event.

If you are not going to get a day rate from the team try to contact parents that have bought before and try to get them to pre-buy photos for a little discount. This way you will have some guaranteed money.

Maybe give the team photos in exchange for sponsorship? Like.. have the announcer say 'For official photos visit www..." and have business cards all of the place.

Don't even think about going if you do not get at least 200-300 in your hand before you show up to cover gas and travel fees.

Its not a team sport so no team photos just awards and action. There is now way to presell anything. You don't know forsure who will be there untill that day. An if they don't like the picture then I would have to refund money. As of right now looks like it will be 2 days of travel an 2 days of shooting. Each day will be shooting for about 4 hours.

Last mud run I shot it was $1000 for the day. Included 6hr day shooting and 2hrs travel. DVD of edited images to be used for promotion. Cheaper then I wanted to do it for but it tuned out to be a pretty easy event to shoot.

Recently went through similar negotiation for a very vague photo gig for sport events. Also meant for promo use.

I end up setting a rate per day for whatever they need me to cover. Delivery is on DVD. You can also ask them to cover fuel if it's far from your home.

Asked something similar for Dan-o, but didn't get anywhere near.
