Hi

may i ask you which camera and raw tweak (for example camera raw )settings (saturation contrast ) do you use to obtain a rich tonal black and white

i use camera raw , with profile neutral , tone curve pont -> linear flat
saturation -50 or -30 , black 0 , and maybe recovery...

after i convert in black white with a gradient blend color , or chanel mixer

i would really like to obtain some advices and feedbacks

thanks
cheers

ps i like cold tone color shots , outside post processing , could be a good rule use in camera set shift/bkt wb in the blue direction
sadly i can find a software that help me to set up the shift/bkt white balance to find a good setting to obain cold tone colors

Just convert to B&W in photoshop using the B&W adjustment and then go to adjustments > levels > use the auto function then adjust to taste. Full tonal range from rich blacks to nearly white whites.

If you're shooting in RAW, in-camera settings have no effect on your image. Having said that, those settings will affect what you see on your camera's LCD screen because it is a jpeg representation of that RAW image.
For that reason, I shift all of my in-camera settings to the left which gives me a live-view image that more closely aligns with what pops up in LR?ACR.

Agree with Tricky. Use of various PS B&W filters, and curves/levels work better than "desaturation." Get an understand of how colors relate tonally in black and white.

thanks for the tips
cheers

Go to the HSL tab and the greyscale page. Click to convert it to grayscale and then play with the sliders to taste. There are some youtube videos that give some ideas to start (search youtube for camera raw black and white or ACR black and white).

There is no one set conversion that works, it's going to depend on the individual image and what colors it contains.

Once you have the tonalities right, then go play with contrast/exposure/curves as needed.

Here's a decent link, obviously sliders are diff in newest camera raw but w/e:

I'll make the story short, this is the premier conversion software. http://www.niksoftware.com/silverefexpro/usa/entry.php (external link)
