This family is very dear to me, so this party took on extra significance for me. I'll explain along the way. Thanks for looking!

btw, the entire set can be seen here...

1. After attending one of my former workshops a few years ago, the mom became my workshop administrator. She's an incredibly talented organizer, party planner, creative artist, photographer, etc. She and her family have become very close friends of ours over the years.

3. These sisters are the birthday boy's cousins (their moms are sisters). I've had the privilege of shooting all three of these kids' 1st birthday parties.

4. This was not one of my better framing moments, but I just love their smiles and the way the boy is leaning on mom.

Allen...thank you! I trust all is well. I haven't been around lately.

Joel...thank you very much! I appreciate it.

Jenn...thanks for those very kind words. I always appreciate your comments. Hey, a couple good shots of our own kids' parties is more than we can ask for! Believe me, I know how hard that is!

I meant to ask ... are 1st birthday parties usually so extravegent out in California? Seems like all the 1st birthday parties you photograph are wow. Amazing and beautiful. Much more to them than our simple place baby on floor on tablecloth, let them smash cake into every crevice and open gifts LOL

Jenn, in the Korean culture, the first birthday is a very significant one. The tradition began centuries ago when some babies wouldn't make it to their first birthday due to various factors, including disease and access to health care. Times have changed, but the tradition continues.

The level of extravagance can vary quite a bit from party to party. I'm just blessed to be able to shoot so many fun parties! I really do get to work with some great families!

That makes a lot of sense! Thank you for the cultural lesson. :)

Is there a significance with the colors of the traditional outfits?

They are all wonderful captures.
the grandparent in me thinks that #8 is just precious.

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.
I have a Cannon with me at all times. You can't take the shot if you don't have something with which to shoot.
