Cleaning 70-200 f/4

A buddy of mine purchased a second hand 70-200 f/4 lens, while the lens works and is sharp, there seems to be dirt or sand or something under the zoom ring, when he zooms it sounds like something is scratching... strange sound...

Has anyone every experienced this or know what may it be? He called me and ask, so i, posting on here.... lol

He said the Focus ring is perfectly fine.... but the zoom leans just makes that scratchy sound... he for it from a local guy for 450.00 cash.

Could be sand or grit under the ring. That's give or take 100 bucks off the lens, so it's a good deal if he's willing to repair it, if it becomes an issue.

Unless he's willing to take it apart, it'll need to go in for a cleaning and calibration.

Her got it off the guy for 425.00, but he said that it works fine... i told him to send it in to get it calibrated and cleaned out... are there any local lens cleaners IN NYC anyone can recommend?
