Hi All,

Have a 7D with the following lenses:

Sigma 70-200 2.8
Canon 18-55 (from my old 400d)
Tamron 70-300
nifty 50

Finding myself taking more pictures of the kids/landscape/macro type as well as motorsport stuff

I was considering the Sigma 17-70 as a replacement for the kit lens (as its in my price range) and wondered if anyone had any views? At the mo I really only use the 70-200 and the nifty 50.

Aidan

Sell the tamron, and the kit lens and get the one you are looking at. I have heard great things about it.

Also, you might get better responses in the lens section.

EDIT: I. Just found this thread that has a used sigma 17-70 for sale.

The 17-70mm looks like a good choice to add to your collection, I want to strees one thing. I have the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 Macro and if you want to take Macro, these lens' are not true Macros. I would recommend getting extension tubes later on to get better macro shots and keep cost down, but Sigma wide zooms don't give you true 1:1 or higher macro shots.

I think it would be an excellent lens to add, but I just don't want you to be disappointed if you are relying on this lens to be get you great macro shots.

+1 for what he said. I did have the the sigma 17-70 as well and it really is a great lens and would work well with what you have

Thanks gents,

The macro thing is just a sideline/timepasser. I have extension tubes that I have tried on the nifty fifty.......not a clue what I was doing.

Looks like this might be a good option then.
