Doesn't matter if he likes the 5d3 more or the d800 more; he is still an idiot.

Never take what Ken has to say at face value, he knows how to play his audience and keep the traffic flowing to his site. Of course he is a good photographers and photography tips he shares are pretty good as well, but as far as his reviews are concerned, well they are good as well, but have that bit of something to get one or the other camp all worked up.

It's just got to be satire - either that or our dear Ken has some very odd reasons to judge a camera. According to him, the pros are:

- Auto correction of CA (if you shoot JPEG). Haven't most of use been doing this in PP for years from our RAWs? To really rub the satire in, he says the win from this new feature is that we can put $100 plastic lenses from eBay on our new $3000 camera. What??

- A better on/off switch (reaching for my credit card now to upgrade...)

- A better 'play' button (chimps R us).

- DOF preview button on the ... wait for it ... other side of the lens mount. Woopie!! Does anyone seriously use DOF preview in any meaningful way (aside from watching an already too dim viewfinder get dimmer)?

And to really prove the satire, the chief con is:

- "Slower, more confusing Autofocus"

I mean, really!

I agree with your quote except for your statement regarding the DOF preview. I use it all the time when I am manually focusing using live view.

Ah OK - Live View. Yea, I guess it's useful in that instance.

KR may just be pulling our leg.

The bottom line is that both are excellent camera bodies with varying features, and internet topics on which brand is better is just internet fodder.

...I'm not sure why everyone is surprised. Here is what he said about the 5D MK II:

The Canon 5D Mark II is the world's best DSLR when you're shooting more than one kind of thing at a time. Nikon has nothing close to its multiple Total Recall C1, C2 and C3 settings, so I can photograph precise landscapes on one setting, active kids on another an instant later, and still have a third setting for whatever else I might shoot that day.

If I'm shooting one thing like sports all day, or shooting in my studio all day, sure, I'd rather shoot a Nikon D3s that weighs and costs twice as much, and if I'm going on vacation without my family I'd rather take a tiny Canon S90 instead, but if I'm going on vacation with my family and want to do some serious shooting at the same time, the Canon 5D Mark II is the best.

Thus we now know why the 5D Mark II is so incredibly popular. I love mine; it's easy to carry everywhere, and the results are unbeaten among DSLRs.

He loved his Mk II, gave it a favourable review, and used it all the time. Why is everyone surprised he likes the Mk III?

I don't want to click the link to Ken's site but in the past all his DSLR recommendations were Nikon so if he actually prefers the Canon 5D3 over the Nikon D800 that would be strange -- or Canon is paying him more than Nikon

Now he says the D800 has better AF system than the 5DIII. He changes his mind everyday.

...how would you know?

You won't even click a link to his site!!!

I quoted from him before: I'll quote the same line again:

That was what he said about the 5D MK II several years ago. He uses the MK II often as his walkaround camera. Why do you think it would be strange for him to like the MK III better than the D800?
