While it is true that I won't use his review to make purchase decisions, I do credit him with making me aware of the threat of alien anal probes. He is the reason I've started lining my shorts with tinfoil. Uncomfortable - yes, it's damn uncomfortable, but it's better than letting those aliens get to me. :D

I think Canon may have sent him a CPS strap.

Ken Rockwell's kind of like the Peewee Herman of photography; entertaining but not particularly useful - except in writing stuff that inflames some of us to create threads that just happen to drive traffic to his website and therefore increase his ad revenue.

Just leave him alone. Reading his stuff just encourages him.

I don't discredit Ken's opinions because they're intentionally controversial, irrelevant, old-fashioned or just plain weird.
It's because Ken is a CRAZY PERSON.

I would not base my purchase decision on whatever Ken thinks he knows about something. Only an idiot would do that..

...I'm not sure why everyone is surprised. Here is what he said about the 5D MK II:

http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/5d-mk-ii.htm (external link)

He loved his Mk II, gave it a favourable review, and used it all the time. Why is everyone surprised he likes the Mk III?

Then why this comment? Seems like a backhanded compliment:

"This is what separates a professional camera from amateur cameras like the old 5D Mark II: the ability for live back-up so you won't lose images in case of technical or human glitches."

He seems to do that a lot. Very hard to follow his reviews. At times I feel like I'm reading a review from a 10 year old.

You need to put what he writes in perspective. Visualize this, you're writing up something so you can put food on your table, roof over your head, etc. and you're doing this with an alien probe placed in an unmentionable place. That's bad enough, but we're not done. Now add into the mix that you're mentally ill.

It's amazing the guy can write anything.

...this is a classic example of "quote mining". Ken Rockwell has always made the case for dual-slots on pro-level cameras. He has also clearly stated that he loves the 5D MK II and he probably uses it more than his Nikon DSLR. Based on what he actually posts (and not what other people say he posts) why are you surprised he might like the 5D MK III over the D800?

Because (in the past) if you go to his site he always recommends the Nikon DSLRs over Canon

The man is an idiot but a cunning one. He has actually found a way to make money off of his idiot commentary.

Are you sure he makes money? I'd have to see his tax returns to verify that.
