Comments in the same order as the pictures were posted:

  • Maureen Souza – Pro1 – Testing the Wind
Colorful kites are always eye catching. I love this one with its body ready to be inflated as soon as the wings catch some wind and rise it up.
    -
  • teekay – G1 – Tandem
A tandem always needs well designed and carefully matched kites to fly. Those look powerful kites pulling hard in that huge plain. The dark hills and the snow capped mountain, low in the horizon frame the kites nicely.
    -
  • Michael Wells – G9 – Just Launching
I love the steep angle of the camera to capture that classical rainbow delta. The head included in the lower right plays as a nice ground reference.
    -
  • marie – G2 – yikes ... no kites. sorry ( ...except photos taken with other cam era ) :
:) Well, not a kite, but a beautiful device that can fly high as graceful as any good looking kite.
The neat green of the prairie and the interesting clouds produce a pleasant slightly back-lighted scene.
    -
  • mrshobden – G11 – Ethan's Homemade Kite ahead of the Rainstorm!
Brave the kite that flies defying the storm!
I love the kites made at home. They are always rewarding for the builder. Good luck to Ethan.
    -

Even with a small numbers of entries, assigning the top places is a hard task.
Thanks to all for sharing your kites and congratulations to the winners.

Description of the theme:
_______________

Kites! a theme never asked before? although some of us posted kites in related topics.

OK. Be it. Kites. I love them, I build and fly them. In the northern latitudes, spring and summer are propitious time for kite flying, some of you will be finding them in the wardrobes. I guess that autumn in the south can see some kites too and by the sea kites are always seen.

New to me, power kites are also allowed, of course! With a few less years on my shoulders, I'm sure I will be flying them.

Show me your kites, well lit, nicely framed, show me them flying or in the repair bench. A kite trapped in a tree is not a good thing for the owner, but you can show them too.

Everything were a kite is present is fine for this challenge.

Good luck!

Congrats to teekay and Michael. & thanks for 2nd place, Rafael. I suspected you were having some kind of internet disruption and glad it has been resolved.
A little story about our kite. Skip bought it several years ago when Aaron was little but often, our windy weather coincides with rain so it is very hit & miss on whether or not we can fly it. Some years it gets quite a workout and other years, it hangs in the corner of our garage. But I love the colors and bird shape when we have it up in the air. :)

That is a wonderful action shot Maureen, the bird is so good looking in flight!. It seems that Aaron and Skip are really having fun too.

My grandson asked for a dragon kite ( 'like Elliott' he wished ). Thus, I have my free version of Elliott (Pete's Dragon from Disney) ready to be tested. Below, the 'highest flight' of my handmade kite, waiting for its first test in real wind. I hope to achieve from it an attitude somewhere near to that of Aaron's kite.

That is pretty cool, Rafael. I love the dragon!
The most amazing thing about our kite is that has survivrd for 5 years :) And it is way bigger than most of the other kid's kites. :)

Thank you, Rafael, and congrats to teekay and Maureen! I, too, really enjoy kites...always have, and what a great topic for a challenge! Living in a high wind area, good flying days are hard to come by, which I suppose is the reason it's not a very common hobby here. Even so, on good days you do see an occasional kite being flown from time to time. I loved teekays shot this week...beautiful kites in a beautiful setting! Linda...I hope the kite was placed there for the photo and not snatched by the tree as it was being flown! ( I hate it when that happens!):)

Thanks Rafael, and congratulations to everyone else who managed to find kite shots! I had lots of kite pix but this was the only one taken with a G-series and I really didn't expect a win (incidentally, Rafael, that's a local beach and lake, not a plain).

Will get a new challenge up later today but in the meantime here's another kite shot, taken on the Oregon coast with an A95 (fine little camera) back in 2007.

: )

Congratulations to winner #1 Teekay

to #2 Maureen and #3 Michael

the winning shot and scene is beautiful

also Maureen's and Michael's kites ( characters etc) lol, having such gorgeous colours too
Linda's also is terrific and well done to Ethan to have made it so well, love the dark clouds too.
real nice atmosphere in all

I love to see kites flying out on the plains,
trouble is (the Ranger told me ) that the moving wheels (where the person is pulled along holding the huge kites , sailing along by strong winds) that the wheels are damaging some parts of the ground out there. I would hate to see them stopped
having not seen them lately I was wondering had they been banned, but then, the day after the challenge closed one of those fellows (who fly the kites) was out there again ..he said that the weather having been very unsuitable lately, (heavy showers etc)..
I was half afraid to hear they had been stopped flying the kites where wheels were used. just great to see the action again.
I love kites, always did
Many thanks for hosting and judging Rafael,
do you make the kites you mention for the family.. and public ?
must be a wonderful hobby especially when you actually can make them .
there must be some beauty's in your home over the years

I just show these below as you are interested in types of kites
I'm sure you have some great shots (you may like to let us see )
that dragon kite for your grandson is great
its terrific enjoyment to watch them blowing in the wind and for those 'flying their kites' especially.
its tough too and needs a lot of strong gripping and guiding.
also its great to see children enjoying the fun in the outdoors

many thanks. lovely subject

ps edit

just saw Maureen's andTeekays other beautiful shots added on
~ really smashing

I've been told many times to, "Go fly a kite!", but I haven't in many years. Alas, no such photos. Watch next week, a festival.

Terrific entries, all. Teekay, awesome entry.
