'The big one' has turned up at East Midlands Airport during the week - managed to grab a couple of shots on my lunch break (light was awful, so no prizes here!!). Last time I saw it was 15 years ago at Farnborough! AFAIK it's off tomorrow early morning carrying charity clothes back to Russia. I took these on Tuesday, and that morning the cargo ramp was a bit full - with the 225 and 2 124's! One of the 224's left that morning, so missed the 3 biggies.

Yep, I believe that is still the world's largest plane? Someone may correct me. I don't think the A-380 is bigger than that?!?!? LOL

Great shots...

Interesting diagrams. The A-380 doesn't really look any larger than the 747. But they look huge to me in photos.

Jon.

From the photos, it looks like you were on the same mound of earth that I got to. You just had a LOT better light. I saw it yesterday (see other thread) in the gloom. It deffo looks better with the nose down though.

looks like it! A good spot that! The light had just gone the wrong side when I got there on my lunch break (although it was nice and bright). I missed it leaving yesterday morning, but I think it went earlier than expected (7:30ish I think).

Where did you get your 3rd shot from? Was it across the perimeter road, on the mounds?

I was stuck at work all weekend otherwise I would have gone yesterday. My third shot was from the perimeter, across the road from the threshold, there is a big bank with a couple of access roads onto the fields at the top. I just parked up there for a bit. Only thing is that It cut out part of the gear. Should get some good approach shots from that position though.
