does anyone know if a kindle fire will support canon's edit software, or is any good for viewing pics? looking at getting one thinking it might be an alternative for viewing shots on the road without having to drag along my laptop. looking at pc, and not spending much $. thx

Canon's edit software? You mean the PC/MAC software the cameras come with?!

correct. come to think of it, any software that will let me view would be fine, but never used a tablet, so don't know if they're up to the task.

Unless there is a hack available I'm pretty sure the kindle fire is locked. You have to get your software via the amazon marketplace.

You probably wouldn't want to, anyway. The Kindle Fire doesn't have the beef to make that hamburger.

I have a KF. I haven't tried, but I'm pretty sure it would be an inadequate solution. It's even pretty pokey as a web browser, and it is pretty limited on space. iPad...that would work far better. Probably even some other android tablets, but not a KF.

You can Root the Kindle Fire to get away from that lock down, but thats not the real problem. The real problem is that the software that comes with your camera is only for computers and wouldnt run on any tablet unless its a full blown PC tablet which are quite a bit more than even iPads. On top of that as others have mentioned the Kindle Fire is a very bare bones tablet and slow even at what it intrinsically does.

I just bought a Blackberry Playbook for $200 and couldn't be happier. It is much more versatile than a fire or Nook and my photos look great on it.

The iPad is very capable at Post production - sure it's not as fully featured as photoshop or as fast as a desktop machine, it still works.

I was using Filterstorm Pro with my iPad to ingest, caption, crop and FTP my photos when working on deadline, the small size of the iPad makes it easier to carry, compared to the brick of a laptop I had at the time

Except that they've halted production because it was going to be slower than the new iPad.
