I've just read in CR that Canon may release a 40mp+ body in 2013. That should keep us landscapist/studio togs happy.

Lets say it happens in a years time. I can very nicely cope with my 5D2 until then.

Whats it likely to be named? I suggest they might bring back the 3, because after publicly stating that the 1Dx is the replacement for both the D and Ds lines, they are unlikely to climb down and a new 3D would allow them to have their cake and eat it.

If they want to keep it competitive with the D800 I dont think they will put it in with the 1D series...so possibly 4D ? (4 / 40mp) I once thought 3D would be a good name but then again people could confuse it with having the ability to shoot movies in 3D - unless of course it CAN by then :p

I am betting on 3D or 5Dx. I hones't don't think it matters what people confuse it for, if you are buying such a high end camera, you should know what you are getting.

I was thinking the 5D3 would be called the 5DX actually.. ah well, whats in a name.

Are they really going to wait until 2013 to release a competitor (MP-wise) for the D800?

My uncle's sister's roommate's brother's cousin heard that it's going to be called the Canon 3DsX Mk IV and it's going to be a 50MP camera with a 128-point AF system with 40 double sensitive cross-type points, 250,000 pixel metering sensor, will have dual XQD memory slots, shoot at 10 FPS, have built-in wireless transfer and GPS and will run the latest Android OS.

Only 40 cross types? Outdated POS before it even has come out. Sony is planning 102 Cross Types

It'll probably take them months and months of delay to release it like how the 1DX is going lol. I really do want a high MP camera from canon..

You're not that far off with your specs, it's just not gonna be in 2013 ;) And it probably won't have 128 point system - there's only so much space in viewfinder.

One thing for sure, it'll cost a freaking fortune.......... Canon seems to be turning into a millionaires brand with their latest offerings. Non professional snappers will soon be priced out of having high end equipment as Canon turns into an elitist make. Nikon and Sony must be rubbing their hands !!!

45+ megapixels (hoping 54MP at least, same as an upscaled NEX-7, and equal to 150ppi @ 40x60", or 300ppi @ 20x30")
14-15 stop DR
16-bit A/D conversion

To hell with the rest of the specs!

Well, the first two aspects (54MP and 14-stop DR) already exist - just upscale a NEX-7 and you have it already.

Anyway, it wasn't so long ago that people were 'dreaming' when they were talking about ISO 6400... now we have native ISO 51200!

I hjave no interest in high ISO, just give me those MP!

Eye-Control AF would be nice, I'd settle for the same 45 points that the Eos-3 has.

If they can give 54MP, 14-stop DR, 16-bit A/D conversion and a RAW histogram, I'd settle for no AF and 1fps!
