Today at Ridgefiled NWR, SW Washington state. I was told it was a Curlew but I'm thinking Whimbrel. Getting closer would surely help but was not possible.

GaryFairhead Cream of the Crop More info | Apr 18, 2012 21:38 | #2 I have only seen and photographed a Whimbrel once and the beak isn't as long as on your bird. I believe this is a Long Billed Curlew but if I am wrong someone here will surely correct me Gary Fairhead C/C welcome .....

Apr 18, 2012 21:53 | #3 Thanks Gary - my only reference is the Audubon Field Guide and a worker at the refuge. The worker said it was a Long Billed Curlew but the eye stripes seem to be at odds with the Field Guide. Dave
