Has anybody heard if the 600EX-RT in optic mode can work with a radiopopper px transmitter?

My thought is if it would work then i could get a newer speedlite with 200 mm zoom capability and still use my 580s with radiopoppers in multistrobe shots.

Another option is that maybe i could use one of the 580s as the master px transmitter and attach a px receiver to the 600 (not sure an existing bracket will line up).

in the future canon (or a third party) may come out with something that allows the 600EX-RT to talk with the 580s in radio mode (some e-ttl receiver that can understand what the 600 is sending out).

Or if the 580s start to die then they would be replaced with 600s.

If nobody knows then i may have to try something with my flashes and radiopoppers at a local store.

I actually already emailed Radiopopper directly asking this question, they responded to me within 24 hours. They are going to be testing it out as soon as they get there hands on the 600ex and will let everyone know at that time.

I am personally thinking it will definitly work as long as you turn the RF in the new Canon flash off, and we will probebly need a new bracket so the PX reciever lines up properly with the new flash. Otherwise I don't see why it wouldn't.

I love my Radiopopper PX system, and was curious about this too for the same reasons, thinking if one of my (4) 580exII flashes die, or I want to add a 5th flash, I would like to buy the new 600ex at that point in time.

I got a new 600 EX - RT today. I mounted the RadioPopper PX on top, firing my off camera Quantum T5d-R with a RadioPopper Jrx attached. I got three fires out of the PX and it shut down. I had to remove and put batteries back in to get it to fire back up. Tried again, no fire, shut down again, even with an 80% battery in it.

Got my other PX and it did the same thing.

I put each of my PX's on my 580 EXII and tried each repeatedly. Flawless.

I have been working on this tonight and very frustrated so I am setting them aside for the night. I have emailed RadioPopper and will call them in the morning.

Interesting, I am looking forward to see what Radipopper has to tell you.......so strange it worked for the first 3 shots, then stopped working.........The optical trigger has to be the same on the 600 as the 580, otherwise they would not be compatible. Thanks for your input WAF!

Here is Radiopopper's reply. They are offering a RMA for something they are saying will NOT work. My PX's are NOT defective, they just won't work with the 600 as a master. Here is the reply from Andrea of Radiopopper:

"I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with your units. We unfortunately do not offer loaners. I am happy to initiate an RMA and send you instructions on how and where to send your units.
We have done extensive testing with the new Canon 600. We do not feel its compatible to use as a master flash with the PX System. It works flawlessly as an off camera/slave flash however. "

HI, WAF:

Hope You have'nt returned the RP Px yet. I may have a solution for You.

First, remove anything that may cover the front of the 600ex-rt ( Like STO-FEN diffuser)

Second, Try rotating the 600ex-rt head so it show "Zoom ---MM" (the Radiopopper PX wont work If the Zoom level is above 50mm (in a APS-C camera like the 7D, 60D) or 80mm in a full Frame.

Try this and tell me if it works.

Mine is working flawlessly as long as I keep the 600ex-rt diffuser-free and at an angle.

I will try that. I contacted RadioPopper and they say the 600EX-RT can only be used as a slave, not a master.

So I am wondering if the on-camera were set to "M" manual and set to 50mm would that solve the issue? Or do I have to rotate the head so it is NOT zooming?

Done... It actually fired the slave when set manualy at zoom level 50mm and 70mm, but, it misfired several times. at zoom 80mm, NO FIRE at all.

It was more consistent when rotated and NOT zooming and at zoom below 50mm.

(For this test I do not used Diffuser) The diffuser caused the Px trans to shut down all the time after two to three shots in my previous tests.
