We don't see many of these around our home so this was a real treat. Weather was heavy rain interrupted by occasional torrential downpours.:roll eyes:

But it turned out to be one of my best days at Ridgefield NWR, Ridgefield, WA

Thanks for the comments - I was pleased getting these, especially that last one. Composition might have been better but these work well enough I think.

Those are all very nice Dave, especially for a rare bird in your area.
I expecially like the 2nd image as a beautiful portrait with such a typical RWBB pose and habitat, and the 3rd image as a testament to their singing capabilities. Nice job!

I agree about the exposure. It definitely can be tricky to get it right on these birds. I enjoy seeing them and we have a lot in my area. They like to hang out at the lake that I kayak.

Thanks Steve. I sat and just listened for a while and they really are beautiful singers.

Thanks Tom - all those clouds make terrific soft boxes for light. I think there might even be some rain streaks visible in these.

Thaks Daniel. We must be too far from any water here at the house. These were all over the marsh grass and cat tails along the ponds at Ridgefield NWR yesterday. The light was actually quite nice, even in the rain.

Dave, what a wonderful series. I never tire of these dominant creatures and am glad you were able to make photos. That first one could have been out of our neighborhood. Good for you!

Thanks Diamond Lil - I was really pleased with them. The light was great for the shots and just being able to sit and listen to them sing was terrific.

Thanks Charles - I was at the refuge yesterday and the place was crazy with red-winged blackbirds.
