I was wondering if anyone has taken their lens onto Canon for repair of this issue effecting some of the 15-85's ??

Outcome and info on what they did would be much appreciated.

Most zoom lenses w/o a lock will at some point creep.

Is yours still under warranty?

Yeah, it's been noted that in a lot of reviews that the 15-85 has some creep. I'm not sure what they can do to tighten it up.

But it's expected that a zoom lens will creep as mentioned above.

I personally have never been bothered by the creep on my 15-85. It doesn't happen if fully retracted or extended, and I normally carry it retracted. It also doesn't affect my shooting when it does happen because I compose each shot individually, so if it has creeped from 35 to 50 and isn't wide enough it doesn't matter because I would have changed the zoom anyway even if it had stayed at 35mm.

That being said, I am pretty sure it is pointless to get this repaired, as it will just start happening again in a few weeks to months.

The only time I notice it is when I try to photograph or copy something with the camera pointed straight down. It is a bit of a pain but you just have to hang onto the zoom ring to keep it in one place.

Thanks everyone, maybe I'll live with, as, aside from this, it's a very sweet piece of glass. There's a Lens Creep Band that's cheap and is suppose to hold it in place Mike and might work great for those critical shots.

I'll call them and see if they have addressed this you anyone else and, yes, another 3 months warranty, I had a Sigma fixed for creep and it worked fantastic after, so it might be worthwhile taking it in.

Thanks again

I solved my lens creep problems with Lens Band...available commercially for under $10 at well stocked photography stores.

They also work well for red-ring camoflage on black lenses.
