Need help choosing a ND (Neutral Density) Filter

I have been searching the forum a lot and it looks like I have determined that I would like a neutral density filter. This is what I have come to decide:

77mm
0.9 (3 stops)
I dont want to spend the big bucks on the variable ND filter now.

I was looking at b&h. I see Hoya and B+W are the big ones being used. They range in price from $50-$200ish. What is the difference between the prices, and what would you all recommend? I would prefer to stay in the $100 and under range.

If you're looking for screw on, I can't help too much as I only use the Singh-Ray, and that's out of your price point. B+W makes some good multi-coated ones that should be around $100.

I had a Genus Fader variable ND, but didn't like it enough to deal with its quirks (same quirks most variable NDs have except for singh-ray, but you pay for it), and returned it.

That looks good. Do you feel 4 stops is better than the 3 stop for shooting portraits with a strobe midday?

that was the intention when I bought it, but honestly I haven't even had a chance to get outside and try it out lol.

if 4 stops is more than what I need to get the aperture I'm looking for, I'll just adjust ISO (if possible)and/or strobe output, etc..
