what will Canon respond with? For most folks picking up a dslr MP count often is a deciding factor - a trump card for the Canon till the T3. Any idea what Canon new entry level dslr will be like?

Apr 19, 2012 14:59 | #2 agreed. I meant folks moving from P&S with little to no idea of how dslr's actually work. Lets see what Canon has to offer.... | 5D Mark III | T3i | 24-70 f2.8 MK II L | 70-200 f2.8 IS mk II L | 18-200 f3.5-5.6 | Σ 30mm f1.4 | 50 f1.8 | 430exII | YongnouYN560 | YongnouRF603 | Vangaurd 263AT |

For people that actually know something about camera's it's stupid. It's gonna have pretty bad noise, moiré and aliasing. //Tijmen

Nikon was well behind Canon for MP on DSLR for last few years, it was never the problem for them to keep prices at the same level with Canon if not higher. Working in camera retail, I can say that, mostly, it is still a big number that everyone looks at. I can't tell you how often peoples' first question about a camera is how many pixels it has.

That may be true, but we don't want Canon to stuff the sensor so full that IQ (low light and noise) starts to degrade. I suppose they can stuff the Rebel series sensors, just leave the semi-pro and pro bodies alone. http://www.pbase.com/goldbough

I was looking at some stuff the other day at a Best Buy and heard an exchange very similar to this. Customers go into those places to buy megapixels a good majority of the time. So Captain Naive buys a Nikon instead of a Canon to flick on green box mode, permanently attach a kit lens to it and act as though he is better than regular iPhone/Instagram users because his photographs post processed with the same 4 hipster filters are bigger than iPhone photographs post processed with the same 4 hipster filters. My 500px.

And then they'll impress their friends with 500 pictures of out of focus "bokeh" and mugs of coffee. no because if there the same price and the guy in blue shirt says it has more mega pixels which obviously means better quality cause he noes thing better which one is the consumer going to take?

Canon will make up for the profit loss through their point and shoot cameras. I'm sure we'll see something new eventually, but one camera with higher megapixels isn't going to put much pressure on Canon. If this was the case, Nikon would have had huge profit loss, because Canon (in the recent past) has had a much higher megapixel count in their cameras. Equipment: Canon 60D
