I've tried a few non L series lenses but the 15-85 is the only one I've bought. I've never regretted buying it either. A really useful range and it has great IQ. Go for it.

The Canon 15-=85 is a superb lens for a crop camera, I think it's significant that you don't see many secondhand copies for sale, that should tell you something, the owners tend to keep them!

Thanks. This is how I was going about, shooting (although a different day).

Totally agree. I just wish they had a little bit less zoom creep. Mine isn't too bad, and is worse pointing up than down. But I'd be happier if the zoom was a bit snugger.

I bought my lens from a fellow forum member rebelml. He said it was used but I couldn't tell it. It looked band new.

Nice pic Gawain.

I am going back and forth on whether to buy the 15-85 or the sigma 17-70 but this thread is beginging to tip the scale toward the 15-85. It just seems to have such nice image quality and i do have a 35mm f2 for low light stuff.

Do you mind if I ask you where you purchased it from? I have seen threads on here that say it should sell for around $700 but the places i see it are either around $800 or are places I have never heard of.

I missed the one for sale here.. .. I found one used on Amazon. I paid $620 and it included the Canon hood.

I think my next two lenses will be a 35mm... either the Canon f/2 or the Samyang 1.4.... and the non L 100mm macro.

I haven't read through any of the previous comments in this post, but I can confidently say that selling my 15-85 has been my ONLY regretful sale. It truly is a very versatile lens that can be amazing even in low light with the addition of a flash later down the road. If low light is a major concern right now, then get a 50 1.8 in addition to this lens.

I honestly don't think your friend will regret buying this lens. If I happen to come across a good deal on the 15-85, I'll buy it again as my all-purpose solution.
