Hi again POTN.

Long time no see :)!

I just backordered my new camera, the Canon 5D Mark II - a huge step up from my Canon 1000D.

While I know it's gonna be a huge improvement, I don't think I'm entirely certain what the 5D are capable of compared to my old camera. I do of course want to get the very best out of my new camera, that includes studying what functions are superb for when etc.

So is there anywhere, besides the manual (which I don't have yet), where I can read about all the new functions?

I'm currently reading through the dpreview, but are there anything else I might want to read?

Try looking here for your user manual:

First, get Understanding Exposure (external link).... everyone who buys a DSLR should be required to read it before they are allowed to post questions on forums.

Next, get one of the guide books (external link)specifically for the 5D Mark II. These books expand upon what the manual has to offer.

Thanks for the link :).

Yeah, I hope I'll get it soon. *Fingers crossed*

I'll get the "Understanding exposure" :).

Do you recommend any of the guide books more than others?

To be honest it works just the same as your other camera. Best way to make it purr is to give it a good stroke.

I found David Busch's book, "Canon EOS 5D Mark II" to be very helpful.

1Dx - 5DIII - 40D - Canon 24-70LII, 100L macro, 135L, 16-35L, 70-200 f4 and 100-400L lenses

- "Very good" is the enemy of "great." Sometimes we confuse the two.

I also like the book by David Busch, it's big but a good resource. If you don't want to lug the book around with you, it's available from Amazon as an Ebook for the Kindle, and you can get a Kindle app for many portable devices these days.
