For me, the shot doesn't work at all. Sorry - I just wouldn't use it. In the first version I can't tell who the subject is. Is it the player with the ball, or the one who is intent on stealing it out of the cradle? As a parent, I want my kid as the subject - no questions asked. The second shot is worse - a stick out of nowhere doesn't work. So, this would not be a candidate at all for me. You need a subject, and any others in the photo should add to, not take away from that subject. It's still a nice photograph of a couple of LAXERS though, and it's light years ahead of what most parents take at the games with the point and shoots. You did a nice job. I think LAX is one of the most difficult sports to shoot successfully.
One thing - a key element in sports shooting is to take LOTS AND LOTS of shots. It's all about percentages and your chances of landing those special images increase as you take more photos. If you had several hundred shots, you probably wouldn't even consider this shot in favor of many others that would just scream take me!
