I just got my 2x mkiii in the mail and I was surprised in the quality of it. With the 2x no mfa that I can discern. Here are a couple of photos, I didn't do a 100% crop because sure I bet you could nit pick it, but printing out or on the web they look pretty good. I didn't do any pp to these so sure they could be better. I didn't have my tripod or monopod today so these were all handheld at 6.3 and iso 800.

This week kinda felt like christmas, my tc came, my 5d mkiii, another elinchrom speed kit, LR4 and my 17-40. Now I think I have all of my bases covered, otherwise I think my wife would kill me.

yeah that was the reference to the macro title. I tried getting rid of it, but the local camera store guy said only Nikon has a red removal tool built in. Guess I am out of luck. :)

Very nice, I'm thinking a 2X III, my 300 f4 IS and a 1D Mk II might be a pretty good poor man's 600mm.
Maybe slow to focus but should produce decent IQ while retaining AF for stationary critters.

i would say since you already have the 300, why not try it. when i had the f4 i used the 1.4 on it a lot and was happy with the results. I didn't have the 2x at the time so i can't comment, but i can't imagine they would be horrible.

Be careful about paying more for the mk iii. I forget what site it was, but it did image testing on the mk ii vs. mk iii (1.4x and 2x) and the mk ii's looked better IMO. (I went with the 1.4x mk ii myself)

I'm only thinking of the 2x III otherwise I would buy a Mk II for a 1.4 X. The 300 2.8 is dream lens
right now but you never know. The OP has an incredible setup body / lens wise.

Hi, that Heron shot looks pretty good.

May I invite you to post a 100% shot on the following thread:
https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1160838

My goal is not to "nit pick", but to see what this combo is capable of.

Thanks,
Howard

Really good shots.
I have the 2x mark III as well. I barely see the IQ difference on the 70-200 F2.8. Its an amazing little piece of glass.

You mean "know"? :D

I don't count myself as one of the "bird folks", but here's a few places to start with:

BTW, that was a black-crowned night heron.
