Another vote for the 15-85. I use it on a 7D and it is excellent. 24 is too long for general use

I've had the 15-85 for less than a month and so far I love it. In my case I needed and appreciated the 15mm wide end.

I went through the same debate you are now before I got my 24-105. I was used my Tamron 28-75, so I actually picked up some on the wide side with my change. I felt that the Tamron was short more than I felt it was not wide enough which led me to my choice. I also had an ultra wide for when I need that, but to be honest I don't use it as much as I should.

Everyone has an oppinion, you just need to see if you are longer for a wider shot or a longer shot with your current lens. Try to set it to 24 for a while and see if you need it wider.

I so do not understand this. Why have 2 different camera systems that would do essentially the same thing? If it is for business reasons and having a back up, why would you be shooting with a variable aperture lens like the 15-85 and not the 17-55 where you could have f2.8?

If I ever did add a full frame body, I would put a 16-35 on the full frame and the 24-105 on the crop and cary both bodies around to give me 16-168 coverage. Or I would throw the 24-105 on FF and put the 70-200 on the crop and have 24-320 coverage. Having the 15-85 on a crop camera all the time and the 24-105 on FF all the time... ???

Best advice here. Other people can't tell you what kind of focal lengths you need. Only you know that. So set the lens at 24, telling yourself you can't move it wider, and see if you can live with the result. Do the same on the long end. Then you'll know what you really need.
