Thinking seriously about a 85mm 1.8. Can buy used for $315 on this forum, but I think for less than a hundred bucks more, I can buy new.

Any thoughts?

Well $399.00 is the cheapest your going to get it for brand new so I guess it really depends on how much you value a new lens and a warranty over a used lens and $84.00 saved? Personally for such a small savings I would go with a new lens. You can buy it refurbished from Canon Direct for $335.99 with a 3 month warranty.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

You really just have to shop around since things change so often. Amazon is a good place to start, then try Google Shopping or Yahoo Shopping. Keep in mind that if you buy new, it must be from an authorized seller for Canon or any company to honor the warranty. You can find lists of authorized internet dealers on each company's website. Canon refurb is usually a good compromise between the benefits of new and the savings of used.

There's no way you're going to get a brand new (and not stolen) 85 mm f/1.8 for $100. Even the 50mm f/1.8 is just over $100.

I think he means he can get a brand new one for less than $100 more than $315.

Thanks, corrected the missing word. Canon is not showing any refurbs at this time. Think I'll hold out for a new or refurb.

Canon usually has their summer rebate sales in the beginning/mid May, wait until then to see if the price will drop.
