Hi everyone! I am in need of a big case so that I can transport all my equipment and not have to bring 5 or 6 separate bags with me. I would like to fit everything that is linked in my signature (three bodies, 6 lenses, 4 monolights, 3 speedlites), as well as some odds and ends. I will be adding a 50mm prime, another Canon speedlite and a flash bracket eventually.

I have been looking at the 1600-series Pelican cases with padded dividers. After some filtering at B&H's website, I got these results:

Does anyone have recommendations for me? Can anyone tell me why some are labelled as "Transport" cases (e.g. 1634)?

I think the Transport cases are too big to really carry around and thus must be wheeled really?
Smaller models can be thought of more as carry cases.

The 1630 is getting fairly big in the range and loaded will be pushing picking up alone much less carrying around easily at all?

I have several 1600 and they can be too heavy and bulky to carry any distance and have no wheels.
The 1610 which I also use a lot does have wheels and is deeper but much easier to move around on the wheels.

I have a 1624 that I can get nearly everything in; it has wheels and a extending handle to help wheel it around. I shipped it full of equipment last Sept. and the weight was around 77 lbs. You can carry it, but you're not going to want to carry it a long time.

I'm not sure if you will get the mono lights in, depends on how big they are. The case itself has two levels with the bottom level being pretty deep. I'm able to stand a 100-400L up vertically in one part of the case.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I guess I will need to calculate the total volume of all my gear and then see which case comes closest. For all I know, the 1600 series might be too big.

Does anyone else have similar gear stored in a Pelican case that can comment?

Im pretty sure you could fit all of that in the 1624. I did a review on mine you can see here: LINK

Great review Ben. I had read it a long time ago which is what got me looking at Pelicans. I ended up going for the Pelican 1614 (external link). It has no top tray, but I think this would be better for quick access at events. It's also close to $100 cheaper at B&H. ;)

I had done many measurements and discovered that my car has one of the smallest trunks in its class, even though it's a large sedan, so the 1634 or above were out of the question. I will probably get a long case sometime in the future for my lighting gear if I find that I'm taking it on location often.

I found the Pelican distribution thread too, so I'll be posting in that once it arrives. Thanks for the help guys!
