any thoughts between the 2? I have decided on a Gitzo.

I just bought the Markins Q3T, now need to purchase the tripod.

I know the the 1542 folds small. My concern is the stability of using it with a 5d MKII w/ grip, L Plate and 70-200 MKII. The 2541 seems to me would give me a more solid base. I just wished I lived near a Gitzo dealer so no chance of handling one in person.

My travel suitcase would hold the larger tripod for sure.

I want the tripod for hiking and would strap on my Tenba medium shootout backpack for 2 to 4 hour hikes or strap to a Case Logic backpack for walking around on short jaunts.

As always thank you for your time and opinions.

If you going to own only one tripod then get 2541. 1542 is more for compact and travel

I agree with Kevin. If you're only going to own tripod, definitely get the 2541. If you think you'll own two tripods in the future, then I would get the 1542T for hiking and lightweight travel.

I own a 3541 and a 1541T. They compliment each other well and are perfect for covering both ends of the weight/stability spectrum.

Only one tripod? DEF the Gitzo GT2541 with a Markins Q10 head and RRS clamp. Thats what I would do.

why the RRS clamp?

I should have mentioned I have a Manfrotto 055XPROB, its really about the stability of the two with my gear on it.
