There seems to be a decent amount of enthusiasm for the 5D3 over on the general equipment forum. I'm tempted, but haven't dropped the $'s yet myself.

So I'm wondering amongst those of us who shoot weddings, anyone go for it? Was it worth it?

For me, the objective is better/faster/more accurate focusing and the greater dynamic range compared to the 5D2. These are the elements I'd be most interested in hearing about.

We're oddballs here since we shoot Nikon, but if we shot Canon, we'd stick with the 5D2 since the primary photographic benefit of the 5D3 over 2 is a great AF system. Since we shoot Nikon, our move to FF was the D700 rather than the D800 since the main photo benefit of the D800 over the 7 is the huge resolution boost. Basically, if it does what you need it to, keep using it.

I am going the 5d3 and selling a slew of equipment to get it.

Ive sold: Canon 135L, 50mm f1.4, 85mm f1.8.
Im in the process of selling: Canon 7d with grip, Canon 24-70mm f2.8, and Tokina 11-16mm.
Ive still got for sale my Canon 15mm fisheye.

Selling this will get me a the 5d3 kit with the 24-105. Im stoaked for it! Now I just have to find where to get one.

I'm still shooting on the archaic 5D ;) I put my money into glass not bodies, I use a body till I run it into the ground and it's no longer economical to repair then I upgrade (and because I'm cheap I buy used with little use) I do the same thing with my cars.
I think I'll get another 2 years out of it. At that point I'm hoping the 5DIII (or 1DS#) is at a more reasonable price.

I sold my 5D2s and am shooting with 5D3s now.
I love it, but more so from the AF point of view. Dual card slots are nice too as is the 6fps and the ability to switch to AI Servo by pressing the DOF preview button.

As much as I want one (two actually) I'm never an early adopter of such things. And I certainly can't say with a straight face that my 5D2s are holding me back. I'm thinking January 2014 I'll get two used 5D3s.

Will get one when the price drops or the mk2 breaks. Business first.

currently running on a 1ds2 and a 5D2. i always feel that when i shoot, i always have 2 camera with me. hence, i cant really say 1 is the backup for the other in term of on-the-day work flow.

i tested it with my 35L, works great. should be getting 1 in a few months time.
getting it because
1. as a wedding photographer, the dual card is a must. or this is how i want it to be.
2. able to set the min shutter speed.
3. uses same battery as 5D2

now, waiting for the spare cash to come...

Im not so sure its gonna drop. I have one on order. Should be in early May and my assistant in buying one of my 5D2's. After using good AF systems on my 1D's i really think the upgrade on this 5D3 is worth every penny. I have a 1DMKIV and this 5D3 is right with an MKIV. Trade offs with both bodies, but for weddings, this 5D3 as as about as good as you will ever get for this price point. Looks at nicks posts in the equipment forums and you will be convinced as well.

Already there... got two of them. My MKII's feel very sluggish and old hat now. No regrets at all.

Loving my 5d3 :) Used it at two weddings so far. Iso performance at high levels is really clean.
ISO 3200-6400 are very very usable.

This is what I imagine happening to me. I'll upgrade one of my 2's for a 3 but keep the other 2 for a time. I imagine that once I get used to the 3's responsiveness, I'll hate pulling out the 2.

As much as I thought my 2s were much better, my 5D classic didn't feel sluggish to me. I got sick of the different controls and the old LCD but I still enjoyed using it for the most part.
