I shot one wedding with the 5D3 + 5D2. A week later, I sold the 5D2 and got a second 5D3. :)

Not a huge bump on IQ and certainly the 5D3 isn't "clean" at higher ISOs. I try to keep it between 3200-6400. 12800 is my absolute limit. But it's great to have those options.

I think Canon got the AF right on this one, regardless of there the 5D3 lies in the product line hierarchy.

Guys

Reads nicks 5D3 review. Very spot on advise there.

I was going to hold off as well on a 5D3 purchase. But after using a 1D focus system for over a year now, i really wanted a full frame that i could put the focus where i wanted and not focus recompose. Lost way too many shallow depth shots with that method. After i got a 5D3 in my hands and could test a few things, i knew instantly, i was going to get one. Af is excellent on this 5D3.

Is it as good as a 1D series....for my needs absolutly. I dont have enough camera smarts to distinguish B/t the 1D systems and the 5D3 systems......all i know is that they both work really really well. Im convinced Nick is right and the 5D3 will not be an issue in very low light conditions where as you may experience some locking concerns with a MKIV in very low light.

1Dx costs $7000.00. I had it in my hands. TOTAL GAME CHANGER CAMERA for wedding photogs. ISO 12800 looks like 3200 on a 5D2.....its that clean.

But im rarely above 8000 so I dont really need that much Camera. I kept my MKIV and got the 5D3 for our needs. Im stoked. No more missed shots due to AF inablility. total investment for me was $7300.00 for the 2 bodies v/s $7000.00 for one 1Dx.......thats the way we decided to go.

Mike,

The church I was in this past Saturday, I was shooting 1/160, f2.8, ISO4000. Nailed pretty much everything in servo. You and I both know the 1D4 would have had issues. It's just GREAT to be able to track a subject and not have to worry about focus not locking on.

Got 1 5dIII...saving to sell the II and run duals. Its not about the IQ because they are pretty similar in that department, but pretty much everything else is a major upgrade. The autofocus is worth the price premium alone IMO.

Yeah, there were a few on there and I picked up a kit. I was nervous because I didnt have any history on their forum, but since I had good history here I think I was pardoned, lol.
