I have the original 430EX.

Is it not recommended to get the TT1/TT5 setup because of RF noise issues I've read about?

I've been using miniTT1 and flexTT5 for both my 580EXII and 430EX. Never encounter any issue you mentioned so far.

pickup some copper tape and wrap it up then duct tape and re wrap it up. and that is the no-sock approach that works will give you 40ft reliabilty. you can get the copper tape on amazon for 20 bucks. coincidentally, doing this worked but pissed me off that i had to and i bought the phottix odins.

That's absurd. It would piss me off too. Not to mention the fact that I'm sure it looks quite handsome....expensive equipment wrapped in copper foil and duct tape. Niiiice.

Best way to avoid this is to buy a radio trigger that doesn't have issues like this. I looked long and hard at the Flex system and ended up with Radiopoppers JRx Studio. Give really nice continuously variable control of flash power from full down to the point where you can barely see it fire.
