I have sided with the camp that does not use filters and instead uses a hood for protection. However, I will be vacationing at the beach with a few fishing trips planned. So, I have decided to purchase a few filters for the lenses that I will be taking.
After reading the Filter FAQ and other material, I have narrowed down my choices to the Hoya HD filter (Protector or UV) and the Hoya S-HMC UV filter. The HD Protector is $20 more for the 77mm than the S-HMC but is hardened glass. Is it worth the extra money? The reviews on B&H and Amazon are very positive for both filters so no help there.
As I will only be using them in hazardous conditions, they will remain in my bag with very little use. Just looking to purchase something that will do the job and not degrade my photos.
I have seen the LensTip UV filter tests but the Hoya HD was not tested, possibly it did not exist then?
Any feedback from those that have these filters would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
