I've never had this happen before. I shoot my brother's night club event for fun and also because well, it's family, and one of the DJ's they had booked before needed a photo I took for promotional stuffs . Checked my email just now and the promoters/flyer designer asked for a higher res version because they want to use it on an 11x17 flyer. But at full res, my 4 mp camera couldn't produce something they could blow up and the email conversation felt kind of awkward as he asked for a higher resolution picture.

I wanted to say something like, "Sorry man I wish I could help" but in the end, what could I do? Not like anyone's going to magically give me a 1d3 and they're not even paying for the photo.

Did you give him the full size image?
I would print a test page and you would be surprised at the quality.
4MP is fine for 11x17 assuming it's not cropped bad, many printed 16x20 and larger with a 1D

The flyer may be 11x17, but will the image be full frame on it or smaller?

I photo I took with my 8MP P&S got cropped and used for a 24x36 poster. It didn't look great up close, but from five feet away it did the job. You have to remember that such things aren't high-res art that will be scrutinized. The pic is just a supporting image for the rest of the content of the flyer or poster.

Yeah, I didn't crop anything out and it covered the entire frame. The designer said it didn't look quite right blown up.
