This "issue" is also seen in 5D Mark ii, not just the Mark iii. I was using the Mark ii for years without any real problems though.

All the more reason to use M and a separate, incidence meter. ;)

Actually, I just tested one of them and can get my 7D to do the same thing. I'll have to pull out the other 7D, 5DII and 50Ds to see if they all do too, sometime when I have nothing better to do.

It's sort of silly.... if there were a lens on the camera instead of a body cap, a tiny bit of light leaking in via the top LCD would be a very small percentage of the total light reaching the metering system. That's a 2/3 stop variance in those vids, which really isn't very much when you consider the total darkness inside the camera.

It does sound more serious on 5D3... enough that Canon stopped distribution and is checking them.

I tried with my 7D (with a lens on, however) and I was unable to affect the metering enough to see any change in shutter speed when on Av mode.

I have two 7D's here and neither of them do it.

Just picked up a 5D2 the other day and have not played with that one yet other than to take a few test shots.

I concur. There is no "issue." Unless you're KC and did a whole portfolio on lens cap on shooting. :p

I put my 7D body cap on my 5Diii and the problem went away. There is a light leak in the 5D3 body caps!
