i have this on going issue ever since i got my slr back in december, not sure if this is a normal common deal with canon software or what but i do know thats driving my crazy. i have lightroom 4 as well, but i havent gotten to get familiar with it. my dilema is i somewhat edit any pic and it looks half decent, then once i save as or convert to tiff 18bit and save whatever sharpness the photo had went through the roof and it now looks worse then what i originally had.

i attrached 2 screen shots.

the 1st pic is the right side edited before being saved and the left one is the one already "saved as edited" the bottom one is just a bigger one of how bad and annoying is it no matter if its raw or jpeg. all im doing it adjusting the brightness and maybe add sharpness here and there that all.

what can i do to get rid of this? i have updated the software as well and still the same

here is another one of sharper one, it looks actually way better, but the screen shot kind of decreses the quality, still looks better than the "edited" one above :mad:

It's hard to guess at things looking at a pic of a moving vehicle, since we could be looking at motion blur. Could you take a shot of a stationary subject, either using a tripod or with a shutter speed that is fast enough to freeze any camera shake, and post pics?

I already left home so I can only post still one later tonight. No matter if it's moving or not once I go to save or batch them under canon dpp it kills the quality no matter what. That's my frustration with it. Look at my last attachment and even though its just a screen shot the entire front end of the car still looks sharper then the one above which I had already process with dpp. Im sure part of it could be user error but I would be a happy camper if I can solve this and keep using the simplicity of dpp. Thanks for the reply

When you view the pic at "100%" how does it look? And I'm not clear on what the first bigger (blurry) shot shows us compared to the second, as to what you have done with the two to get the difference?

At 100% looking at the final edited one is really soft, the raw one not so much. Yes the 2 bigger photos are to show or try to how much sharpness the front end lost just by hitting either the (convert and save tiff 16bit, save or batch) button. Basically I'm asking if there is a cure for this (either user error or software or dump the dpp in the trash) otherwise I guess it's time to try learning lr4 :eek:

Thanks tony

Well, I'm not sure, if they don't compare well looking at them at 100%. It shouldn't be that way.

But LR4 is definitely worth learning! That doesn't answer your DPP problem though, and I can't think of anything myself to suggest. Plenty of people use DPP happily!

Looks like it has to do with the noise default values...
Tools->Preferences->Tool Palette->Default noise reduction settings
Check the "Set as defaults" radio button
and put the 4 cursors at 0.

Also check the NR/ALO tab in the tool palette and check if the 4 cursors are at 0.

You can upload a Raw file using a site like YouSendIt.com. You don't have to be a member for 1 file, you enter your email address as the "Recipient", upload the file, and they send you an email notification with a link to the file, which you post here and people can download at their convenience!
