Had my second shot at an NBA game last night and felt much better than the first time in January 2011. Also going to shoot Pacers-Bulls tomorrow night. More photos here (external link).

Agree with the above post... but I will say there are some weird shadows and other going on with the cheerleaders leg.

Nice faces on the basketball photos, but armpits get boring after awhile. I think the lack of feet hurts some of the photos, especially where they are cropped in funny places where the body doesn't have a natural bend. Would love to see some other shots of players driving the lane or handling the ball. Dunks are certainly crowd pleasers, but some other looks are also nice to have. Overall solid photos though. I really like the foul from behind - great catch on that one.

Thanks for the feedback. I do have quite a few other "non-armpit" shots as well, just didn't post them (see my web site). As far as the crops go, when I submit to the paper I do crop differently than for display here. For posting here and on my web site, I try to keep the crops at a consistent aspect ratio which sometimes results in amputations. For the paper I don't constrain the aspect ratio and crop as I see fit.

I'll try to pay a bit more attention when I'm shooting tonight, but last game it was tough keeping everything in the frame since I was at the 3rd inside spot from the basket and shooting with the 70-200. I also did do some shooting with the 24-70 to get a bit of a wider perspective, but as they say, I'm trying mostly to "shoot tight, crop tighter". I'm still learning and always welcome constructive feedback, so thanks again.

I do have a couple more photos in the sequence for the foul from behind. He just about got his head taken off and ended up kneeling down on the floor after the play for a bit trying to regain his senses. I'll dig 'em out and post them when I get back home.

Looks like it might be off...I can't really tell here at work on this crappy monitor. Will check 'em out when I get home. I always seem to struggle with WB. I don't recall if I have my gray card in my bag for tonight to set up a custom WB. I am shooting raw, so I can adjust in post, but would rather get it right in camera. I also struggle with a bit of color blindness at times as well.

There is a run/hole in the nylons on her right leg...

Nice pictures, great catch on a near foul on #6

I'm 100% positive that's a shadow, look at it extending down to her shoe.

Nice shots! The WB is just ruining it for me but they'll be that much better when fixed.

It's definitely a shadow on her leg. I saw that on some other photos and also thought there were runs in their hose.

How does the WB look on you monitor? Like I said, my monitor here at work sucks, but it looks like maybe too much magenta on my work monitor.

My monitor isn't perfectly calibrated but it looks either too green or too yellow of some kind.

I am looking at it on a bigger monitor now, thought it was a hole in her nylons by the looks of the wrinkles in the nylons right above the shoe, but now it does look like a combination of the nylons and multiple shadows caused by possibly another light sources or a flash firing at the same time.

Ok, went back to Banker's Life Field House tonight to shoot Pacers-Bulls and did a custom white balance this time. I then took the custom white balance and applied it to one of the shots I took the other night. Let me know what you think.

Left is the original. Right one is after applying custom white balance.

Personally I think it looks better...but I am looking at a non-calibrated laptop monitor.
