So I can only get up to a 13 image burst (as stated in the view finder) before the buffer is full.
Shouldn't I be able to get 18?
Any help would be appreciated!!!

This is what I have and how I do it...

Camera in manual
1/8000 f2.8 ISO100
If I choose Auto-ISO I drop to 10 image burst.

Cards used...
San Disk Extreme Pro CF 90 MB/s UDMA-6 32gig
San Disk Extreme Pro SDHC 95 MB/s 32gig

Shooting RAW set to write one image to one card.

Changing AIServo, AIFocus, OneShot = no change.

Any clues?

Canon lists that as the max burst rate. Maybe 18 with the battery grip (when available)?

My 5D3 does about 21 large raw images in a burst before slowing down if writing to a Lexar 1000x UDMA-7 32GB CF card. That's based on actual count, not looking at the buffer number. It only does about 14 in a burst if writing to a Sandisk Extreme Pro Class 10 SD card. Also the recovery/flush time is much faster on the Lexar 1000x.

I think Canon's numbers are based on a UDMA-7 CF card.

I used f/4, ISO 400, manual focus, IS off, AWB, auto lighting optimizer=off.

Canon has confirmed several times that the battery grip will change NOTHING regarding focus speed or max burst rate. The two batteries in the grip alternate in a switching series, so that the most-charged battery is the only one being used at any given time.

Aside from doubling battery life and fitting in your hand, the grip has no other purpose.

I get 18 shots before buffering... buffering is only a few seconds. I'm using a 32gb 625x by Calumet (1/2 the price of sandisk)

Compared it to a level 4 SD card and it was night/day.

HA!!!

Regardless of what the screen says I just did five test runs and hit 21 pictures till it had to stop and go slow.

I guess the screen lies, or the camera begins buffering after the first picture is taken and it keeps up for a while?

Sweet!
