I believe they do. I have an app on my phone (EnGadget) that I check throughout ever day, and seem to recall some sales figures being covered in the past.

These don't contain individual SLR sales, but are good reads anyway:

AS far as company size, Canon absolutely dwarfs Nikon (197,000 employees for Canon compared to Nikon's 26000).

Canon does more than twice the sales of Nikon, and almost 3X as much as Nikon when it comes to DSLRs: http://www.petapixel.com …avyweights-camera-makers/ (external link)

Canon T2i / 70-200 2.8 IS II / 10-22mm / 50mm 1.8 / 18-200mm / 18-55mm / 55-250mm / 1.4x extender / filters / tripod / monopod / lightning trigger / Nikon Coolpix P90

I've never seen them release specific unit numbers for cameras sold. They will normally talk in terms of market share within body type. They do have alot of information that anyone can read on their corporate website which is www.canon.com (external link). I scanned through their 2011 annual report and couldn't see anything specific. You can see some of their financial reports at Canon Annual reports (external link). I would think that no one would release their actual sales per body type as that is too much information for their competition and personally I don't see what value it would hold for the public at large other than general interest.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Threads go to 10 pages on here talking about the tiniest of tiniest things in regards to differentiating between models and brands.

Actual figures of camera in actual hands would be a great general interest I would say (well at least for me).

It would be interesting just to know for interests sake that Nikon and Canon sold -

1.7 million units of the D700
8.6 million units of the 5DMKII

Amazon sales figures show Nikon beating canon in most camera categories, however, in the real world, somehow I see 10 Canons for every 1 Nikon. I do not know if it is because I am a Canon user, why I spot Canons everywhere and might not pay as much attention to Nikon like how I do to Canon.

What are you guys experiences?

One thing I have noticed is at all major sports events Canon's rule. All you see is big white L telephoto's. I have to think the ratio is like 7 or 8 to 1 in that field.

Amazon figures are constantly changing. I'm not sure how far back they go, but they are definitely NOT a substitute for market share numbers.

they change at least daily, maybe more often. the other day Canon 5D3 was outselling the D800, today the D800 is in first place (I happen to know they got a shipment of D800's in because they finally filled my order).
I wouldn't put too much value on these numbers, they email a list of best selling lenses - that is really all over the map day to day.

Regarding our product portfolio, Canon offers a broad lineup of SLR cameras to meet the wide range of market need. This year, we are updating our lineup with a particular focus on higher-end segment. We have already announced new advanced amateur and professional level cameras. We will use our rich lineup to expand sales 27% to 9.2 million unit. At the same time, we will also work to increase sales of interchangeable lenses. As for compact cameras, we are aiming to boost sales by 17% to 22 million units.

if the transcript is accurate, canon sold around 7 million DSLRs in 2011

I don't know, knowing the total figures sold by Amazon would be interesting in the long run but while they're still battling limited stock it wouldn't have a lot of validity because customers might be going elsewhere to find it in stock. Still, if Amazon sold 10 million of something over the past three years and 7 million of its competitor I'd be surprised if it didn't somewhat represent the overall success of the two products (at least in the US market).

Perhaps, but the Amazon rankings (as I understand what they are) are NOT total over a long run, but rather a snapshot of the short run - a running total over the last day, week, month, something like that. IOW, what is the ranking NOW. What I've not seen anywhere is a definition of the time frame being used. It might be there somewhere, but I haven't seen it.
