Sum up my position of the new Canon 5D MK III for wedding photography is Freedom

  • Freedom to focus on the most challenging conditions with too little or too much contrast in the frame. The 5D MK III will focus as fast as our 1D MK IV camera bodies and those cameras are no slouch with fast focus.

  • Freedom not to worry about the most challenging lighting conditions. It allowed me to shoot with natural or indoor lights and use a flash when I wanted to … not when I had to.

  • Freedom not to worry about memory card backup. Two 64G cards in dual redundant writing mode just like a 1D.

A few images from last weekend’s wedding with lighting or focus situations that the 5D MK II would have some difficulty. Not to say the MK II’s are not great cameras, they are. But the MK III is more-or-less a blend of a 1D and 5D series getting the best of both for weddings. Not as rugged or as weather resistant as our 1D’s - but that is just not needed for wedding photography.

Some nice shots in here. First one is awesome :)
For the 2nd last one I would have used a video light or flash to light up the subject. Anyone can just shoot with high iso. My 2 cents. Otherwise nice images here.

Hi ya’ all. The images I selected for this series are a random few from a wedding where I believe the 5D MK II may have difficulty to rapid focus or issues in low light and not best examples of composition.

The ring on the counter top is a 100mm macro lens.

The entire wedding can be viewed here: http://danpettusimages.com/dewalsche/ (external link) using the 5D MK III and 5D MK II and 1D MK IV and 1Ds MK III…Dan

On the staircase one looks like you were a tad too soon with the shutter. A split second later it would be a better pic when they were about to kiss. This one looks like they are rubbing noses - unless that what they were doing :)

I'm with other regarding position them at a different spot.

Were you second shooting or main? Some of these pics, the subjects were looking at a different camera.

Great shots. really enjoy your work. I really love the shot of the little girl.

The one on the stair says ISO 5000. A little bit of NR should clear it up.
