Lovely set - they are interestingly odd little things.

Thanks Kurt and Brian. Diatoms are so beautiful, even the empty shells. The living ones are great to watch, acting and doing things you would think only a sentient being would do. Or at least a dog. :)

Thanks Rick. There are too many kinds to count and these are only the Freshwater kind. There are a hundred times as many in salt water. Diatoms make up 42% of the weight of all living organisms in the worlds oceans. And there were 800 times as many that are not alive today as are alive. Think of that.

They have been alive over 500 million years. ;)

HAHA, Check out the Still Life and Experimental forum for that, but basically, you have to use LED lights for diamonds and crystals, cause they are colorless. :)

Thanks Rakesh. The living ones are fun to watch, as most of them move around and do things that are just incomprehensible. I have some video that shows that side of them. LOL

Well, don't feel too bad, some of them are almost big enough to see with the naked eye. Tell her she is lucky, cause nobody has ever bought me a diamond. ;)

Hahaha - that was clever. I probably would not have visited a diatom collection, but I am glad you duped me into it. :D

just a few of my thoughts...

Thanks Pierre. See what you almost missed? Maybe not diamonds, but little jewels none the less. :)
