This was my first attempt at lightning photo. We're in the midst of a terrible drought so when we see flashes of light we rejoice!!
I set my camera tripod on my deck, focused the 85 1.8 at infinity, set aperture to f8, ISO to 100 and set a 10 second shutter speed. Pushed the shutter button and just got lucky. Tried for another 30 minutes to get a decent shot to no avail. Got run inside by driving rain (YAHOOOOO!!!!!!).

I wonder if the video editors on The Titanic ever went, "Sorry, I can't right now. I'm busy synching the Titanic..."

These are few from a June storm I shot from my front porch. It was a very active storm. I think I had about 40 or so thirty second exposures that had lightning. It was pretty funny... as the strikes got closer you could hear the neighbors ooohing and ahhhing just like at a fireworks show.

Thanks ;)

And I'm afraid my wife doesn't feel the "full appreciation" of my spider pictures either!

Shampoo sounds like an unfortunate name for a hair product.
You're a ghost driving a meat-coated skeleton made from stardust, riding a rock, hurtling through space. Fear Nothing!

composite of 2 images, there wasn't much traffic while this bolt went off, so i pasted in some better looking car trails from a few seconds before.

I played around a little bit a few years back. I really enjoyed the surprisies I found when getting home from shooting lightning and loading them into the computer to see what I captured.
