The city of Astoria, Oregon, where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean, was once a bustling center of industry. Endless forests were turned into lumber, and without a highway system that lumber moved to market by ships and by rail.

Today, the railroad track sees no freight traffic, and teeters on the brink of abandonment. With all of the oceanliners bypassing Astoria in favor of Longview, Vancouver, or Portland, the waterfront's only industry is tourism. But this contraption still stands at the shallow edge of the river, reminding the city of it's industrial history.

That's a good shot Mike although maybe a tad dead centre ... but I wonder what zoom you used to capture it from Iraq  Must have been a real monster. Maybe Sadam had it specially made to spy on the US ;-)a

Well I haven't been in Iraq my whole life. :D

That was taken in August, when I was home on leave. I find my Photoshop skills improving fairly quickly, so I'm looking at my older pictures to see what I can do with them.

Nice work, I like the image centred as there are objects around it, the tone suits perfectly too.......great scene with the mountains in the background.
