According to these people, Canon is very soon going to announce something which will tramp all over the Nikon V1.

http://www.extremetech.com …-mirrorless-camera-market (external link)

I've also seen alledged patents for a Canon EF lens adaptor to hook EF lenses to what appears to be a compact, mirrorless camera.

Could it really be that Canon will let us dSLR users have a small "walk-about" body which will have its own, cute-but-fairly-high-quality lens system, but which will also be able to use our current lens lineup?

If you hear/know anything, please post it up...........

I, for one, will defintely want one.......as long as it can produce 75%+ of what I can do with my 7D/EF lenses, right now.

Regards,

Simon

I have been waiting for this.

If it is a full frame mirrorless like the Leica M9, I will buy it in a heart beat.

If its not FF, well then meeeh. :p

One "quote" is that it'll be 1.3x, like the 1Dx.

If that's so - perhaps actually using the 1Dx sensor - I think I'd forgive Canon and still get one!

:-)

Having a native EF mount on a mirrorless will certainly pique my interest.

From what I've heard, and from playing with a Nikon V1, I'm expecting a modest number of dedicated lenses, plus a cheap adapter-ring to allow EF-lenses to be used....

Can't wait!

The 1Dx is not 1.3x, it is full frame.

I doubt Canon would do this, it would violate their protecting market segments rule.

The sensor without the AF system in the 1DX is not all that revolutionary. It's the other stuff like AF and metering and such that really makes that camera.

I would love a full-frame, EF mount mirrorless camera.

Problem is it would have to be large enough to be comfortable in my hand, but at the same time small enough so that I would want to grab that instead of the full size DSLR. Not sure they will do that. It will likely be too small for me.

Well, if this is the new home of APS-H I think Canon will have a ridiculous hit on their hands. As soon as there was an M mount adapter I'd have one at pretty much any price below $2000, assuming the fit and finish and other factors were up to snuff.

interesting, I would think a Canon 'EVIL' mirror-less model would be 1.6 crop instead of 1.3

That first photorumors posting is nearly two years old. What did I miss that suggests that this is imminent?

Sorry.

I forgot to add that here in Japan, there has been a lot of talk at my local photo specialists that Canon is about to jump into the mirrorless compact interchangeable lens market, in part because the Nikon V1 and J1 have been very popular.

I dug out the older "rumours" simply because the links make it easier to get people who might have more recent knowledge to add it into one thread, rather than spread it all around POTN.

Oops. My mistake. I was writing "1Dx" but thinking 1D4.

Either way (1.3x or FF), an interchangeable compact with EF capability would, IMHO, be a welcome addition for many who want to use the best lenses we own, but with less overall bulk and weight due to a smaller body.

Any more info', please add it.

FF, use my existing lenses, and small and I'd buy in a NY minute.

that's an almost 2 years old article.

basically everyone knows canon is going to release an EVIL. those rumor sites would just keep saying that every 2 or 3 months. Broken clock is right twice a day.

....

I hate quoting myself, but to ease the whole stress of reading a one-page thread....here you go.
OK?

Now....if you've heard more over there, than I have, here in Japan, please add. If not, then there's not much point in saying anything.

Cheers for now.
