Just received my lens that I had ordered off amazon. It was sold by B & L Photo Inc and fulfilled by Amazon. The lens and the instructions are in the box... but no warranty card. Am I missing something here? I thought these were supposed to have one in the box.

it should have one
but this being a disposable lens that will stop working when it splits in 2 and won't be covered by warranty, you won't be needing it

He says its disposable because of the price lol.

Not sure about the warranty card issue. But you might want to check if Canon would even honor warranties for lenses purchased from that company.

You won't get a warranty card when grey market items are purchased. That's what you got. When you buy from an online company such Adorama or B&H you have a choice for grey market or USA. When you buy from Amazon you get whatever.

Disposable as in if you ever have any issues with it, it's not worth fixing - toss 'n replace...

Your most likely issue will result after the lens is subjected to a certain amount of shock that all other lenses would survive. The front portion of the lens will separate itself from the rest, and you will search and find glue as a solution...

I just did a google and it does sound like they may honor a warranty for lenses bought in grey market. That's what some people said who had the same problem.

I recently bought a tamron 17-50 through amazon uk and it didn't come with a warranty card, the tamron site says every lens should come with one so amazon are still looking into this. It hasn't stopped me registering the lens with tamron though.
I would take it up with amazon.

Warranty cards are useless. What you need for any warranty work is an invoice dated within the year from a Canon Authorized Reseller.

The only B&L photo supply company I found is located in Carbondale, IL the phone number is (618) 529-2031.

If this is the company from whom you bought the camera, phone and ask them if they are Canon Authorized resellers.

If B&H from New York City is where you purchased the lens, find out from them if the lens is gray market or Canon USA. Both B&H and Adorama usually make it quite plain if you are buying a lens with a Canon USA warranty or a gray market lens.

I don't know about B&H but Adorama backs up their gray market items with their own warranty.

Anyway, ask the company from whom you bought the lens.

Amazon is having me send it back for a refund. I went ahead and just got it at Best Buy instead now.

As far as the quality and the lens falling apart, should it hold up fairly well if I make sure to take care of it though? I am always very careful with any expensive equipment.

You can register your lens on line.

For warranty service you will need an invoice showing you purchased it from a store and the date of purchase. Canon has been good about honoring their warranty. Unlike the big N company which gets a little snotty from time to time. So my guess is the invoice from B&L will probably be just fine. That is actually a pretty good lens for the money. Even though I seldom use primes anymore I do like mine for occasionally wondering around after dark taking videos.
