Good things to do do is to use a diffuser over her head (5 in 1 reflector $20), be under a tree, an awning, or even shade from a building.

With limited light modifiers, though you are shooting later in the day, i would shoot even later with the sun lower in the sky.

This is all based on my shooting style. Keep working at it.

Yeah they are really nice, a bit pricey but worth it if you shoot a lot of portraits.
