It seems that everyone who's been anxiously waiting for the 5D3's battery grip will have to wait another month...

What is that mfg's suggested price, /29,000? I thought Thai at first since our baht is 30:1 to the dollar, but that would make it $1,000 grip.

Probably Yen. That works out to US$360 which is just $11 more than B&H's price for it.

Between this, the light leak glitch, that DPP didn't seem to be ready for the new model, I'm beginning to think Canon rushed the 5DIII out the door. Maybe due to what the competition was doing.

It's odd that the grip wasn't immediately available, alongside the camera. I can't recall that ever happening before with any previous model intro... at least not more than a week or so. LP-E6 were a bit hard to find when the 5DII first came out, but that was corrected quickly.

I know right? Maybe it's another rubber grippy glue problem like the 60D

LOL @ 1k for a grip. I'd rather not spend that much on a grip along.

I don't think they rushed the 5D3 out the door. The light leak issue is very minor, and the consensus is that it's basically a non issue to everyone except astro photographers. As for the grippy being delayed, I'm thinking it's another glue problem.

Is it my imagination, or has every Canon DSLR-related release in the past six months or so experienced embarrassing delays?

I think you're correct.

I don't think the EX-600RT or ST-E3 had delays though...

I don't think astro photographers care about the light leak either as they use bulb mode, and manual timing or manual mode.
