Mini TT1/Flex TT5 question

Just got my TT1/TT5 combo the other day and have been playing around with it today with my 5DM2. Is it possible to adjust the FEC on an OCF using the 5D menu system or is that only for flashes attached directly to the body. Just an inconvenience to manually have to set it on the flash head.

Also, if shooting my 430EX bounced off an umbrella, should I be using M mode on the flash or E-TTL? I placed my umbrella about 6 feet away from the subject (tight room) and I still have to up the FEC to at least +2 to get a well lit shot. Suggestions?

I know how to use my monolights good, but when it comes to speedlights, I'm clueless.

buy the AC3 - seriously...
can do all M and ETTL and do all the FEC +/- that you want to do, and can control 3 separate groups from the camera position....

tell me about the AC3...only learned about the Mini/Flex system recently

Speedlites mounted on FlexTT5s are always in ETTL.
It takes an AC3 to control them manually from the camera.
Or you can use Ratios.
The flash menu in the camera doesn't work with the MiniTT1 as far as I know.
I've used them for a couple of years and always did the power control from the back of the flash.

I figured out my problem. You can't adjust FEC from the menu or dial of the body if you already dialed in a FEC value on the flash itself.

So yes, the MiniTT1 does allow me to change the FEC via the body controls.

Now I understand what you were asking, and yes, the flash take precedence.

AC3 is a MUST have. get it. get it. get it. and it's not expensive compared to the rest of it.

That's strange that you have to have +2 FEC for your umbrella setup. ETTL does a great job for me. Without actually being there, at 6ft and in a small room, ETTL shouldn't be that far off. Perhaps its metering the preflash off something else than your intended subject.
