Hi POTN,

I'm new here and registered mostly to hunt for deals on the Classifieds section, but learned that I have to contribute for at least 30 days before I'm eligible to buy/sell. So here are some contributions.

I'm primarily a video shooter and got my Mark III the day it was released. Here are some films I recently put together. The camera is awesome and my Mark II -- while still very capable -- has been demoted to B cam status.

The first is a portrait film I put together for my motorcycle racing buddy. This film has a lot of fast moving action, and is a bit of a rolling shutter torture test. It's not hugely improved from the Mark II, but I have no complaints as it never really is a problem.

The second is an interview I put together. This is interesting because the 2nd angle comes from the Mark II. It demonstrates that the two cameras using identical picture profiles (Faithful) works very well together. The Mark III does have a huge advantage in the new i-frame codec, which does not require transcoding before editing. This is an enormous timer saver compared to the Mark II.

Thanks for watching my humble films! I posted this mainly as a demonstration of what typical usage of this camera is like for event/promo type settings with little set up and quick turnaround.

both videos look great. i was very impressed with the action footage looked very good. some of the shots of them on the bikes looked a little underexposed but honestly it doesnt take away from the video just looks slightly different when you cut between the corners. it could be my cheap monitor not doing the video justice lol. the second video makes me want to try out a portrait video. i have seen quite a few others and i am very interested in trying it out. you did a pretty nice job with editing on both. my only actual feedback is that in both videos your interview subjects could really use some better interview lighting. the second video looks slightly underexposed on my monitor and a key light would have worked nicely with the fill you were getting from the windows. excellent interview location. really enjoyed watching it. but yea my only suggestion is try out some more glamorous lighting for interviews, i think it would make the footage pop really well.

Cool videos. Yeah I doubt the 5D III is going to look much different in any situation other than low-light scenes.

I thought the rolling shutter was pretty bad in the first one, did you try and put it through any correction software, ie ProDAD Mercalli?

Thanks for the feedback, guys!

Brian, you are totally right. I really wish I had some lighting for both shoots. Do you have any recommendation for good starter lights? I get the general principles but I haven't had the opportunity to experiment because I do not own lights.

Kento, I've not tried any software correction. I think I may need to in the future, as I have some hand-held only shoots coming up that will really expose the rolling shutter. Thanks for watching!

Nice! NSR racing. I raced that series for a while. I don't know about the first guy your interviewing though. Looks funny with his jeans tucked into his boots.

Flowrider, you must be from BCSB.

Here's another motorcycle film. Involves 250 cup racing as well.

My friend Jay is running in the 250 cup. It's good stuff. Great video as well.

Rollie still riding the minis?

Really good stuff.

just some comments. The piano soundtrack in the beginning did not add anything, and the music at the end did match the temp of the scenes.

I know, getting good free audio soundtracks is hard.

The panning on the curves was really smooth. Looked good. There was one shot where the exposure got really dark, it really stood out.

The opening interview was rally strong camera angles and exposure. I felt the beginning was really good and by the end you were running out of good takes.

Keep op the good work. The subject of racing is exciting visually. So it is a great topic to build a movie around. Try to find some faster aggressive tempo style audio. AND I was waiting for the on-bike video, that never came. You KNOW you want to do it...

Hey Steve:

Rollie is still racing the NSRs and still very strong. You should come on out and get back on a bike!

Thank you for the comments, Kurt.

If you watch the most recent film that I posted two posts up, you'll see all the on board video you're looking for:
